Kelly McGonigal is a psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University who specializes in understanding the mind-body connection, including how emotions influence physical health, why social connection is key to well-being and how mind-sets affect the body’s response to stress.

She is the author of “The Willpower Instinct” and “The Upside of Stress.” Her latest book, “The Joy of Movement,” explores why physical exercise is such a powerful vehicle for experiencing meaning, hope and belonging, and how it can counter the modern epidemics of depression, anxiety and loneliness. She has 25 years of experience leading group fitness classes, including yoga and dance, and has consulted for fitness companies looking to bring more joy and meaning into the movement experience. She created “The Joy Workout” for The New York Times.
