Paul Mason was born in Leigh, Greater Manchester in 1960. He is an award-winning TV and print journalist, having served as economics editor for both BBC Newsnight and Channel 4 News, during which time he covered Enron, the 2008 financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, the 2014 war in Gaza, the Greek crisis between 2011 and 2015, and the European refugee crisis.

Mr. Mason is the author of five books, the latest of which is the best seller, "PostCapitalism: A Guide to Our Future," published by Penguin in 2015, which has been translated into 16 languages.

Mr. Mason’s radio work includes the two-part BBC Radio 4 documentary "Richard Wagner: Power, Sex and Revolution," and a three-part history of the cotton industry entitled "Spinning Yarns." He left Channel 4 to work freelance in 2016 and currently writes a weekly column in The Guardian. He has been named as one of the most influential writers allied to British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

In 2015 Mr. Mason produced, with Theopi Skarlatos, the award-winning documentary series #ThisIsACoup, covering the Greek standoff with Europe from the inside. In 2016 he wrote and directed the short film "Astoria," a ghost story set amid the refugee crisis in Hungary, commissioned by the Young Vic Theater in London and viewed by more than four million people on Facebook. He was consultant, main unit on the movie "Jason Bourne" (2016), and his book "Why It's Kicking Off Everywhere: The New Global Revolutions," was cited by the director as influential on the movie's narrative.

In April 2017, Mr. Mason appeared as himself in a stage version of "Why It's Kicking Off Everywhere," commissioned jointly by the Young Vic and the BBC, which became a one-hour TV film. In May 2017 his first full-length stage work "Divine Chaos of Starry Things," a play about female survivors of the 1871 Paris Commune set in New Caledonia, premiered at the White Bear Theater in London.
