Speaker Bio
Born in West Virginia, Ali Hossaini is a renowned artist, businessman, and technological innovator. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.

He works at the cutting edge of art, technology and business. His artworks, from video installations to prints and sculpture, have been exhibited in prestigious museums, theaters, galleries and festivals around the world, winning widespread acclaim from Vanity Fair, Cool Hunting, and others, including The New York Times, which has referred to him as “a biochemist turned philosopher turned television producer turned visual poet.”

Dr. Hossaini is a visiting research fellow in the department of informatics at King’s College London. He is also an associate consultant of Lord Cultural Resources, a global cultural consulting practice offering planning services for museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions in Toronto. In addition to his artistic and research activities, he develops plans for organizations in North America, Europe and Asia.

Dr. Hossaini previously worked as an executive with several television networks, including Oxygen, TechTV and AMC Networks. While working as a media executive, he collaborated with a wide range of Hollywood and creative talent. His productions include performances by Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Salma Hayek, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey, Jr., Princess Caroline of Monaco, Sean Penn, Dennis Hopper and other cultural icons. He recently served as chief executive of Cinema Arts Network, a consortium of Britain’s leading independent cinemas and mixed art centers. In this role, he developed digital technologies for the cultural sector, including a nationwide broadband network. He also served as executive consultant to the City of San Antonio, Texas, where he created a strategic plan for the Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival.

He currently sits on the board of the Young Vic Theater. Previously, he has served as director or advisor to other cultural organizations including Anthology Film Archives, WhiteBox in New York City, the QA Ring digital performance art project in Taiwan,and the British Film Institute’s “Britain on Film” program. His publications span film, technology, culture, politics and the arts.
