Mr. Georgios Kaminis was elected mayor of Athens in November 2010 and re-elected for a second term in May 2014.
Prior to this, Mr. Kaminis was lecturer and assistant professor of constitutional law at the faculty of law of the University of Athens. From 1998 to May 2003, he served as deputy ombudsman for human rights. In 2003, he was unanimously elected Greek ombudsman by the Greek parliament, and then re-elected for a second term in 2007 until August 2010 when he stood as an independent mayoral candidate for the City of Athens.
Mr. Kaminis studied law at the University of Athens, and holds a doctoral degree from the University of Paris II. He was born in New York City and has lived in Osaka, Paris, Madrid and Heidelberg. Mr. Kaminis is married and has two children.
