H.E. Dr Amir Hossein Zamaninia, born in 1957, began his career in 1983 as a diplomat serving at the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN Headquarters in New York, finishing his assignment at the UN as an Ambassador in 1999.
He served in the Foreign Ministry as Director-General for International Political Affairs from 1999 to 2004, dealing with policy formulation and promotion in arms control, disarmament, anti-terrorism and human rights. He was appointed as Iranian Ambassador, Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary, to Malaysia in 2005.
Dr Zamaninia served as Vice President of the Center for Strategic Research (Expediency Council) for International Studies from 2006-12. He has been the Foreign Policy Adviser to the office of President Hassan Rouhani since his election to the presidency in 1992.
