Christof Rühl is global head of research at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), responsible for creating and leading a global research function to provide economic, geopolitical and energy analysis to the emirate’s sovereign wealth fund. He assumed this role in August 2014.

Mr. Rühl has a distinguished track record as an economist in business, academia and policy formation. From 2005 to 2014 he served as group chief economist and vice president of BP P.L.C. Prior to this, he was at the World Bank between 1998 and 2005, and served as the bank’s chief economist in Russia and in Brazil. From 1996 to 1998, he held the position of principle economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Mr. Rühl began his career as an academic economist at the Universities of Bremen and Hohenheim in Germany, and from 1991 as a professor of economics at U.C.L.A. He has held visiting professorships at various academic institutions worldwide.

His areas of specialization are macroeconomics and energy economics. He has published widely and is regularly quoted in these fields. He is frequently invited to speak at prestigious international events and conferences.
