Pierre Chareyre graduated from Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas and Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, and from Sciences Po, Paris. He holds a Master of Advanced Study degree in public law, and is CAPA-certificated to practice as a barrister in France.

Mr. Chareyre joined Engie Group, formerly GDF Suez, in 2001 and has served in a range of different positions, initially as finance director of Suez Environnement. He was appointed executive committee member and vice president, administration and finance of Suez Energy International in 2005. He became corporate vice president in charge of investments and acquisitions in 2008, and chief executive officer of GDF Suez Trading in 2010. In 2012 he was appointed group deputy chief financial officer and then executive vice president in charge of the global gas and L.N.G. business line in 2015.

Since 2016, Mr. Chareyre has served as executive vice president of Engie, in charge of the supervision of global energy management, global L.N.G., exploration and production, and international and Latin America business units. He also chairs the Commodities and Related Risks Control Committee.
Mr. Chareyre is chairman and director of Engie Global Markets, formerly GDF Suez Trading, and chairman and director of Engie E&P International.
Prior to joining Engie, Mr. Chareyre worked with Midland Bank in its international Division in London. In 1989, he served as chief financial officer and then executive director and chairman of the management committee at Société Générale and SOGEM, before joining Rexel as chief financial officer in 1997.
