Bernard Looney joined BP in 1991 as a drilling engineer, working in the North Sea, Vietnam, the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska, prior to taking up the role of chief operating officer of the production division in February 2013. He was appointed to the role of chief executive for BP’s upstream segment in February 2016, overseeing all aspects of exploration, development and production. He is also a member of the BP Group executive committee.

Mr. Looney has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University College Dublin, and a master’s degree in management from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and member of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Advisory Council.
