Eldar Sætre, an industry veteran with almost four decades of experience, joined Statoil in 1980.
He has held several leadership positions during his career, including executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2003 until 2010, and executive vice president for marketing, processing and renewable energy from January 2011 to October 2014. He was appointed president and chief executive officer in October 2014.
His expertise was crucial in overseeing the privatization and listing of the company on the Oslo Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange in 2001. As chief financial officer, he played a major role in the merger of Statoil with Norsk Hydro’s oil and gas division in 2007. He has also been responsible for Statoil’s marketing strategy for natural gas sales and renewables.
Mr. Sætre has an M.A. in business economics from the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen.
